About our Serbia news

Latest news on Serbia, a country of seven million people located in the Balkans, in Southeast Europe. The country's capital and largest city is Belgrade.

Serbia’s history can be traced back to the establishment of the Principality of Serbia in 780 AD. Serbia has enjoyed a rich history since through Kingdoms, Empires, and revolutions. Contemporary Serbia emerged as a product of the breakup of Yugoslavia, a national disintegration which occurred as a result of rising nationalism, ethnic tensions, and the collapse of the Communist Bloc. Initially coming back into existence as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1992 to 2003, and then as the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, modern Serbia finally became an independent sovereign country in its own right following the successful independence referendum of Montenegro in 2006.
