About our DR Congo news

Latest news and updates on the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African country bordered to the west by the South Atlantic Ocean.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, also known as Congo-Kinshasa and formerly known as Zaire, is the second-largest country in Africa and the 11th-largest in the world. It has a population of around 112 million and its largest city and capital is Kinshasa.

The Democratic Republic of Congo gained independence from Belgium in 1960 but was followed by a series of violent conflicts, including the seizure of power by Mobuto Sese Seko from 1965 to 1997. The current president is Félix Tshisekedi who has been in power since December 2018.

Since 2015, the Eastern DR Congo has been the site of an ongoing military conflict in Kivu
