Latest news on Bernardo Arévalo, the President of Guatemala elected in 2023. He was born on October 7, 1958 in Montevideo, Uruguay, the son of former president Juan José Arévalo and his second wife, Margarita de León.

Bernardo Arévalo has been a deputy in the Congress of Guatemala since 2020, representing the political party Semilla, which advocates for anti-corruption and social justice. He was previously Guatemala's Ambassador to Spain from 1995 to 1996 and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1995. He received the Order of the Aztec Eagle from Mexico in 1995. He advanced to the second round in the presidential election, where he faced the former first lady Sandra Torres on 20 August 2023.
